Involvement

The international animated film Grand Prix of Europe tells the story of a thrilling race across the continent. At its heart is a young heroine who, together with an injured race car driver, must win the prize money to save her home—a journey that explores not only speed and suspense, but also the power of friendship.

Synopsis

In the early development phase, the film's visual direction was initially rooted in a strong steampunk aesthetic. As part of the production design team, a key responsibility was to critically evaluate and redefine this creative approach.

Through key visuals, pitch decks, and well-founded arguments, an alternative concept was established: instead of smoky chimneys and steam-powered machines, the new focus was on a modern, child-friendly design—featuring clean visual language, electric power sources, and an aesthetic that resonated more deeply with the target audience on an emotional level.

Building on this foundation, environments, urban settings, race tracks, vehicles, and the visual identity of the individual cities were developed.

Production Design

A particular emphasis was placed on the creation of the racer characters, each of whom was given a distinctive visual signature through custom logos, color schemes, and branding—contributing to the narrative differentiation within the race.

As the project progressed, additional elements such as title and credit design, motion graphics, and visual assets for marketing and promotional materials were added.
A standout moment was the visual staging of a Tonie figure based on the film: through projection mapping, it activated various graphic motifs, creating an immersive link between the product and the world of the film.
